FPD Media Release: MVCSC Incident Report – 12/6/2023

❗️Media Release:❗️

This morning at 9:34 a.m., officers with the Fortville Police Department were dispatched to the New Life Church, just east of the Mt. Vernon School District on SR 234, for a suspicious person/vehicle. The individual was observed parked in the church lot, then headed towards the schools, on foot, with an unusual hurry.

Officers requested that all schools be placed on lockdown until further notice. Officers arrived and located the vehicle, in which an ammunition case was located in the back seat. Information provided from the license plate was able to link officers to a potential person of interest.

The individual was located in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation administration building. They were searched, questioned, and released with no further conflict or charges. The lockdown was lifted and all schools were cleared to resume their day. Please note, that no threat was ever given to any school, student, school district employee, and or other person.

There is currently no threat to the public at this time.

Thank you to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, McCordsville Police Department, and Indiana State Police, for their assistance in resolving this matter.
